FAQ

Do you have a set menu for the children?

Yes we have a four weekly menu that is on rota, our menus are reviewed every 6 months and changed/adapted with parents, staff and children's views taken into consideration.

How do you encourage children to eat?

When children don’t want to eat, the team will sit with them, eating a small portion of the same food and making “yummy” noises to encourage them.

What about those who are still breastfeeding?

Parents can bring labelled breast milk each day in their own bottle.

What does a typical day look like at Alphabet House?

In the morning, the children will come into the nursery and start with breakfast. After that they will have free flow and nappy changing, before time in the garden. We then give the children a snack before doing a focus activity, then free flow and nappy changing. We break for lunch time, then nap time and nappy changing. The children then have another snack before a free flow activity and an afternoon garden session. We do further nappy changing, then tea before another free flow session. The children have a final snack time before going home.

Do we take the children out and how often?

At the moment we don’t go on any outings due to COVID-19 but we will be looking at resuming this in September, or earlier, after reviewing the situation.

How does the Key Person System work?

Your child’s Key Person will be your main touch point at the nursery, working directly with your child to help them settle in the nursery, find out about their likes and dislikes, and monitor their progress. To find out more about Key Persons, please read our Parent Pack, which you can download by clicking here.

How many Settling In sessions/days do you offer?

We provide 2 hours on 2 days to settle your child. If more days are needed we can offer until the end of their first week.

How many times do the children go outside each day?

Every age group will go outdoors at least twice a day.

How many First Aiders do you have?

We currently have 4 First Aiders, and there is always more than 1 on-site at any time.

Are the staff safety checked?

Yes, we complete a DBS check on all staff and we collect their references from 2 previous employers.

Does the nursery provide nappies and wipes?

Due to various skin sensitivities and each family using different nappies and wipes on their babies, we do not provide them at the nursery. Parents/carers will need to provide their own nappies and wipes.

Can we collect early and drop off late sometimes?

Yes, absolutely! Just give us a call to let us know beforehand.

Do we need to pay while we are away/while on holiday?

Yes, you will need to pay all year round, including bank holidays and annual staff training days.

What is the notice period?

We require 4 weeks written notice.

Can we change our child's days/sessions?

Yes, you can change the days and sessions your child attends, however, the need to maintain the proper ratios means we will need 1 month written notice.
